Replies: 19 Precious | The Ball and Chains Dad...
There wasn't a lot of sleep in the Abbott household last night. Sadly, the Ball and Chains dad passed away. He had been ill for some time and was in hospital. The Ball and Chain and her mom were by his side when he died.
He was a funny fellow. Small of stature but with a big heart. You may recall that he was so small that last year he bent over to pull a worm out of the lawn and the worm got the better of him and pulled him into its hole instead. He was down there for three days before the worm released him.
He is being cremated. The Ball and Chain and her mom don't quite know what he should be dressed in. I made a suggestion. He has an absolutely hideous Hawaiian shirt. It's very loud with big splotches of color. Everyone hates it and he would put it on just to wind everyone up, particularly the Ball and Chains mom. She detested that shirt with a venom and would never let him wear it outside of the house. I suggested that if they dressed him in the Hawaiian shirt for the cremation, he would think it was a scream and would feel he was going out in style. On the other hand, the Ball and Chains mom would get to have the shirt burnt so they would both feel like winners. :-)
I'll miss the old guy. We got on rather well for the past few years. Things finally improved in our relationship once he forgot about the time I stuffed three or four match heads into one of his smokes and put it back in the packet. I wasn't there at the time of the big flare up, but he was very cross with me the next time I saw him. I think he looked crosser than he really was though coz he only had one eyebrow, having lost the other in the fire.
We are not sure if this is an omen for the start of 2009 or if it was just some unfinished business from 2008. We are hoping it is just unfinished business. We don't ever want to go through another year like 2008.
The Ball and Chains dad was 85 years old.

January 6, 2009 - 8:47 AM LAS VEGAS (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Casinos are feeling the financial pinch since people have less cash to throw into slot machines.
Some Las Vegas casinos are considering going online.
Experts say casinos first saw online gambling as a threat because it would deter people from making the trip to the casino and spending more money.
With fewer people making the trip anyway, casinos like MGM and Harrah's see the Internet as a possible revenue source.
"Having legal online gaming would really help the strip casinos with their marketing. It would help them find out who is gambling out there," said David Schwartz of the U.N.L.V. Center for Gaming Research.
For this online expansion to happen Internet gaming laws would have to be changed.
Some casinos feel the new Obama administration could take steps towards making that happen, but there is no time-line right now.

Replies: 8 LaurieK | To the Old Timers and the Newbies
I just wanted to say something to each and every one of you... After chat tonight I realized we're a pretty motley crew.
We represent all sorts of races, religions, political beliefs, sexualities and more.
Each of us has our own unique identity - and yet - we stand firm as a group of folks together in this world.
Some of us are from different parts of the country - and some --- are from other countries.
But for the longest time --- since I've been here --- and that's a freaking long time... LOL! --- we have all been a type of "family".
We've had our squabbles - we have shared our joys --- we've shared our strategies - our dreams - our hopes - our worries - our lives....
We've allowed folks to glimpse into our lives - and taken peeks into theirs.
Some of us have become friends and more.
But no matter what - I want to say thank you to John for making the place that has brought us all together.
GG has been my home on the internet.
I know some of you also call this place home and ghost through the forum - or on the games.
Some of us remember "Glory Days of GG" and we remember the days when there were no games until a funky little slot was invented.
I have to say thank you to SLOTLAND and To the 7 Sultans group (Fortune Lounge) because they've been here the longest and have been ultimately the best casinos to deal with as far as honesty goes. Slotland has the BEST customer service I have ever seen anywhere... although Club USA does come pretty close.
Anyhow - we - underneath it all are gamblers. Some of us are penny pinching gamblers who know how to make a buck. Some of us are out to waste it all until we "HIT the BIG One" - some of us just like to play and spend our time and money however we choose. Some of us have problems gambling - and some of us do not.
But no matter the range of gambling that we all fall into - we are still ALL HERE.
And we're still all family.
And when I read the chat stuff - I often get a glimpse of some of our personalities - and I start laughing - because some of us are such dinosaurs we "KNOW" that folks will take us with a grain of salt - because we feel comfortable in the knowledge that they love us --- no matter what. New folks coming in may not understand our weird sense of humor... But -- Yanno -- I think in the long run they WILL catch on...
Sheesh --- I remember when Barb and I went at it (I was in the wrong --- of course --- LOL!) but now we're family.
So - keep that in mind - each new person on board is a new addition to our family - and hopefully they will help us grow.
John - again - thanks from the bottom of my heart for giving me many years of pleasure... (SIGH --- and NOT in "THAT" way.... LOL!) And Jeff for making all the games happen and putting up with all of us... Greedygirl for setting John Straight ---- Littlebit for keeping him straight --- AND JOHN'S FAMILY --- for letting us borrow him - even in the worst of times.
And to all the GGers.
You know what?
I love you.
Meki
