That a person will not be able to write, print or say a complete word
In the old days there was such a thing as shorthand and mostly court reporters and secretaries used it
We had slang words but never words that only had one letter
We had cool ,dude, checkitout and the such
Today it seems we have lost the ability to write
we have lost the ability or loosing the ability to print a compete word
we now use one letter out of four or five words
such as wtf wth omg smh rolf to name a few
The wife worked in a bank and retired two years ago
Four year college degree students could not read writing
they would print words but most of them had several words that were one or two letters
our granddaughter is going into the 10th grade and can only read some words that are written

I see it more and more even on the net words used wrong by the younger crowd and them using only one or two letters their instead of there knew instead of new
I remember when this # was a pound sign and we played tic tac toe on it

will the day come

Hello Doc,
sorry mate it has already arrived..........
Universities and employers in the UK have to provide remedial classes in reading, writing and arithmetic for all new students and employees, as schools just don't bother doing the job they are supposed to do.
I am constantly being asked by those who are not too much younger than me to spell for them and do simple mental math.
I am so thankful to have received a proper classical education, but I also feel sorry for those who have been let down so badly.
Now for some really bad stats; 25% of school leavers in Scotland are illiterate and innumerate. It is 20% for England.
How does that happen to the country with the 'Mother of all Parliaments' and the first industrial revolution?
One more question; How the F*** do these youngsters get university places when they can hardly string a sentence together?

Phil.

I like you do not understand how they get in
I guess it works as we still end up with doctors, lawyers, engineers, and others that have to really be on their toes to do the job they do
Is it possible this is the very reason some products do not stay together ,buildings and bridges collapse ,more innocent people being convicted and more people being treated for the wrong thing
You are correct about simple math
We went to a school function a while back. Two members of the Senior class was there to take money
Oh No!!!! the adding machine broke
The cost was 9.25 per person so I handed the young person $ 20.50 .Both of them were befuddled on how to make change. I finally said give me 2.00 back and we are even.
I then stepped out of line with the wife and we helped make correct change until a new adding machine arrived
If you gave them bills and change they were lost
