Tell me about yours

The wife and I have always been bad to wake up in the middle of the night on a weekend and take off to no where
We have done the same with anniversaries which is why we rarely plan one
We started out to a weekend retreat and ended up on Toledo Bend lake fishing off a boat dock with a broken cane pole and a pies of string and an old hook
We took off to Galveston, Texas one weekend and before it was over with we were in Oklahoma at a casino around Randlett/Devol area
Now that we have both retired we still go it just takes us longer as I can no longer drive as much as I use to

We left here last year in the Miata headed to Salt lake City Utah. The wife has always wanted to swim in the Great salt Lake
We go thru the small town of Vaughn ,New Mexico and find out the only certified police ? is a dog that they have for drug sniffing
None of the officers are certified as they are all Felons
Continuing our trip we stay a couple of nights in New Mexico .
From there we travel to Moab ,Utah and then Green River Utah and spend the night again. We tend to get off the main roads and find mom and pop type motels and some of them have really been surprises
We hot a room in Green River for 50 a night and could not have ask for a better stay. The owner did in form us if we wanted breakfast
we could walk across the street and get our own doughnuts or go up the road and buy 90- a night and have them served
Upon arriving at Salt Lake city and at the lake, it did not take long for the wife to decide her dream would remain a dream.
The water really smelled bad more like rotten eggs or something
I told her if she got in that water and the smell did not wash off at the showers then she was catching a bus back home, I was not putting her in the car.
After think about it wish we had driven up to the upper end it may have been better
I keep thinking all that driving just to swim in a lake and then not do it

After more than two years in El Paso, I'm missing driving to Vegas from L.A..

The drive SHOULD take between 4 1/2 - 5 hours, but ignoring speed limts, I was generally able to make it in 4 hours (my best time was 3 hours, 40 minutes...only stopped once, very quickly for a bathroom!).

I loved heading off early in the morning...very few cars, two-lane highway (that up and down, roller-coaster sort of road made famous in the movies), the convertible down and music LOUD!!!

Now, it's a 12-hour drive to Vegas for me, so these days I'm flying out of El Paso Airport and renting a car once I get into town.

Just not the same.

I will always be stuck to driving as planes and I do not fair well together
I am scared of flying always have been and always will be . I do not like anything that leaves the ground
I get that I guess from falling in what was called a gravity wall.
The tall thing that you go inside and are pinned to the wall and the floor lowers from under you .
Well, when it got to the bottom I fell all the way down
The first plane trip I was on it took 6 MP'S , as well as shackles and chained to a seat . Not even allowed to get off when the refueling started. I really had no intentions of getting on but I did go screaming and yelling the whole way as well as kicking ,biting and scratching
It was not where I was going it was the fear of getting on a plane over rode the fear of combat
They could have sent me on a ship and I would have been fine .
I will say when it came time for me to leave coming home, I got pretty well liquored up and passed out right after take off
My hands were still gripped to the seat when we landed at our final destination
